Every body is different!
Many of us begin our wellness journey by trying to fit into a predetermined, one-size-fits-all mold. We try forcing our body into the shape of a yoga pose, or following a diet that isn’t tailored to our individual needs. We're encouraged to do this all the time, everywhere we look — on social media, in magazines, in the latest diet trend book. We’re told what a yoga pose is supposed to look like, but not necessarily how it’s supposed to feel. Then we end up trying to fit our body into the pose, rather than fitting the pose into our body. The real purpose of the pose (to stress, stretch or strengthen a part of the body) gets lost in trying to make it look “right” (or “advanced,” etc). The result is more an aesthetic practice than a wellness practice.
I strive to teach from the inside out, where we focus on the pose doing what it’s supposed to do on the inside of your body. When the inside feels right, the outside will look right, and it will often look a little different from person to person.
In my personalized nutrition coaching, I help you determine what your body needs in order to achieve your goals. Your body is unique, and your needs are not going to be the same as someone else’s! Personalized coaching is almost always more effective, and better for your body, than following a diet or fitness program designed to meet the generic needs of everyone. It is my honor to support you in your journey to your health goals!
I started practicing yoga in 2003. After 10 years of dedicated personal practice, I got my 200 Hour Teacher Certification. Throughout 8 years of teaching in 16 different studios in 4 different cities around country, I continued my education & training by attending various workshops & retreats. In 2019, I studied cutting-edge Biomechanics & modern innovative Somatics in a year-long course, obtaining my 500 Hour Teacher Certification. Since then, I have added to my repertoire of continued education by obtaining my Prenatal Yoga Teacher Certification. I also have my Yin Yoga Teacher Certification.
I believe experience in teaching many different bodies is as important as continued education through certification - I strive to have a healthy balance of both! :)
